Kim Simmons brings forth an extensive 18-year background to the treatment of addiction and co-occurring disorders. Licensed as an Advanced Alcohol Drug Counselor and holding a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Touro University, Kim’s expertise lies in employing a genuine holistic approach in the treatment of her clients—one that encompasses the mind, body, and spirit.
As the clinical director for Adelante Recovery, Kim firmly believes that real happiness can only be recognized in life’s journey, in its moments, and should never be restricted or made exclusive to a given accomplishment or life destination. She recognizes and subscribes to the psychological proof that personal transformation only emerges when the pain of staying the same outweighs the fear of change. Kim understands the struggle of feeling powerless and emphasizes the critical importance of creating a life that doesn’t require escapism.
A talented and effective guide, Kim’s philosophy centers on uniting mind and heart to recover oneself. In helping clients achieve this oneness, Kim’s sessions regularly focus on identifying negative thought patterns and then helping them create healthier alternatives. For Kim, embracing the entirety of one’s being requires getting beyond their distractions, resentments, and toxic expectations, and truly living in the present—making the journey from “human doing” to “human being.”
Ultimately, Kim’s treatment approach aligns with the principle that since addiction affects all areas of a person’s life, their whole life, any successful treatment must also address their whole life—mind, body, and spirit.
